Parks

The Waterloo Park District operates several facilities, including five parks and a swimming pool facility.

Swimming Pool
Click To Enlarge ImageThe public swimming pool is located at 316 N. Library Street and is managed by Town and County Pool. The pool is open 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. during the summer, basically from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Season passes are available on a family or individual basis at both in-town and out-of-town rates. They also provide swimming lessons and host the Waterloo Piranha’s swim team. Please call 939-6330 during the swim season for information on the pool, pool reservations, swim team, or swim lessons.

Koeningsmark Park
Koeningsmark Park is located next to the swimming pool and includes a tennis court, basketball court, and playground.

Konarcik Park
Konarcik Park is located off Konarcik Road (Fourth Street) east of Waterloo and is comprised of about 60 acres of open and forested land as well as one lake. The park has a short walking trail, a ball field, two sand volleyball courts and modern playground equipment. There is also an enclosed playground for smaller children and a lake for fishing. A fishing license is required at the park.

Six covered pavilions are available for group picnic use. The pavilions have running water and electricity and barbecue pits nearby. These pavilions can be reserved for a nominal fee by calling Ruth Sondag at 939-7835 or sending the Pavilion Reservation Form to Ruth Sondag, P.O. Box 141, Waterloo, IL 62298. Rates are $35.00 for city residents, $110.00 for non-residents, and $150.00 for weddings for city residents and $250.00 for weddings for non-residents. Uncovered picnic sites are also available.

The park is for day use only and has no overnight camping.

Lakeview Park
Lakeview Park is located off Lakeview Drive southwest of Waterloo and is comprised of about 100 acres. The park has a paved walking trail, modern playground equipment, and three large lakes that are open for fishing. A fishing license is required at the park.

Lions Memorial Park
Lions Memorial Park is located off of Janice Drive and Lake Drive in Sunset Acres subdivision. The park has a ball field, soccer field, sand volleyball court, and modern playground equipment.

A covered pavilion is also provided and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

S.P.P.S Fields
The Waterloo Park District also maintains several baseball fields off of Columbia Avenue. These fields are used by the local Legion and Southwest league teams as well as by the Waterloo Buds of the Mon-Clair Baseball League. St. Peter and Paul Catholic School also use these fields for their school teams. A soccer field and a basketball court are also available for use.

Memorial / Booster Fund
The Waterloo Park District has established a Memorial / Booster fund to improve the Parks of the Waterloo Park District. The funds raised through this project will be used for improvements and not maintenance or daily operations. Some examples of uses are, trees, tables, grills, playground and expansion projects. Monroe County Veteran's Memorial
A Monroe County Veteran's Memorial project is under way to honor war casualties and all Veteran's of Monroe County. Donations are being accepted toward the Monroe County Veteran's Memorial, which will be placed in Lakeview Park in the area of the lighted flagpole and gazebo. Watch this site for pictures of the Memorial after the dedication target date of Veteran's Day, November 11, 2005. In connection with the Monroe County Veteran's Memorial is a Veteran's paver project. The pavers will serve as perpetual symbols in which individuals and families can recongnize and honor Veteran's of all branches of military service.

The Waterloo Park District is tax supported and its board, which is elected, meets the second Wednesday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at the Park District Office located in Koenigsmark Park.
