Building Official

The City of Waterloo is now accepting applications for a full-time Building Official.

The Building Official is responsible for the administration of the Zoning Code (Chapter 40) and Subdivision Code (Chapter 34). The Building Official works under the direction of the mayor.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of construction, engineering, and building codes and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Preferred: Minimum of four years experience in building construction with IBC (International Building Code) and IRC (International Residential code).
  • IBC and IRC certification must be acquired within one year of employment.

Salary is based upon prior experience. The City of Waterloo has a residency requirement of residing within a 10-mile radius of City Hall.
