POW-MIA Monument Dedication Ceremony

You are Invited to Attend
The day following the Nationally recognized “POW-MIA Day”, Saturday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. we will be having a dedication ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial at Lakeview Park to present the recently installed monument, which honors POW-MIA Veterans.

This project was led by Mayor Smith, after the City of Waterloo was recognized as an official “POW-MIA City” by the Jefferson Barracks POW-MIA Museum earlier this year.

During the brief ceremony, we will be joined by the Patriot Guard, guest speakers, the Gibault High School Choir and our local VFW and American Legion.

We will also recognize our Monroe County POW-MIA Veterans. A special booklet with stories about these brave veterans will be presented to the Monroe County libraries. Near the POW-MIA monument, signage installed to honor the veterans who never made it home will be unveiled as well. We invite any family members of these local heroes to join us. Attached is a list of the local veterans that have been identified as Prisoners of War, Missing in Action or were Killed in Action and buried/memorialized overseas.

We encourage the public to attend to help us pay respects and honor our POW-MIA Veterans. We hope you are able to join us.
